Land Owners

GreenPower can provide the complete solution for landowners interested in having a renewable energy project on their land. We can provide the initial site evaluation, take the project through the planning application process and provide the finance for the entire project (from its inception through to construction). We can then manage the project throughout its lifetime and carry out the decommissioning. Our principal expertise is currently in the development of wind and hydro projects, although we would consider the development of other renewable technologies providing that the idea was sound and the economic viability of the project stood up to scrutiny. Below is some information relating to what makes a good wind farm site and/or a good hydro project site. If you are interested we would like if you could provide us with certain details (listed below), which would help us to make an initial assessment:

Are you interested in Having a Wind Farm on Your Land?

If you are, GreenPower would very much like to hear from you.

Many areas of land are suitable for wind farm development, and land does not necessarily have to be located near hill tops or by the coast. Many inland sites can be suitable and normally considerable investigation is required to establish if a particular area of land is appropriate. What we are looking for in a good site is:

  • Good wind resource throughout the year
  • Grid connection available nearby
  • No environmental designations applying to the land
  • Good access or potential for good access for large vehicles
  • No residential dwellings within at least 500m
  • Land not affected by telecommunications and radio links
  • Land not affected by civilian or military radar or monitoring equipment
  • Land not situated or visible from sensitive tourist locations
  • Land not situated in close proximity to an airport
  • Good geological and hydrological conditions on site
  • No significant archeaological sites being present on the land or located nearby
  • No protected mammals or bird species being present on site
  • No sensitive vegetative communities being present on site
  • Land situated in a preferred area for wind development identified by the local authority
  • Potential for some support for a wind farm from the local community

What would help initially to assess the potential of land for wind farm development is:

  • Up to date map of the land that you own
  • Your contact details
  • Any information relating to the list above, 'what we are looking for in a good site' that you know about
(this is not mandatory but can be helpful)

We will consider all sizes of project from 1-3 turbine developments (1-5MW) up to large commercial projects (>50MW).

Once you have provided us with some details we will carry out some further investigations and will let you know if there is potential to progress.

Are you interested in Having a Hydro Project on Your Land?

If you are, GreenPower would very much like to hear from you.

Many stretches of river/water may be suitable for a hydro project. What we are looking for in a good site is:

  • Good water flow throughout the year
  • Grid connection available nearby
  • No environmental designations applying to the river and surrounding land
  • Good access or potential for good access for large vehicles
  • No nearby residential dwellings within at least 200m
  • No protected mammals or bird species being present near the site
  • No sensitive vegetative communities being present along the banks of the river or surrounding land
  • No other uses of the river e.g. water companies abstracting water
  • Landowner owns both sides of the river
  • Potential for some support for a hydro project from the local community

What would help initially to assess the potential of land for wind farm development is:

  • Up to date map of the land that you own
  • Your contact details
  • Any information relating to the list above, 'what we are looking for in a good site' that you know about. (this is not mandatory but can be helpful)

We will consider a variety of sizes of project.

Once you have provided us with some details we will carry out some further investigations and will let you know if there is potential to progress.

Are you interested in any other kind of renewable energy project on your land?

We have experience in solar thermal and solar photovoltaic. We will also consider involvement in other renewable technologies. If the idea is right and the economics work out GreenPower can apply its renewable energy management experience to develop a successful project for you.
